When most people think of parkour they think of jumping off roof tops and flipping through the streets of a big city. Some of that is parkour, but much of it is not. Our next few posts will strive to define parkour, recount its origin story, describe its purpose, explain the difference between Freerunning (what the heck is that?) and Parkour, as well as talk about who can train in Parkour.
One thing that is incredibly important to remember is that Parkour is a living, breathing thing. Just as basketball started with just a few simple movements and principles and some unnecessarily short shorts, it has evolved into an international sport with various styles of play. Parkour changes and grows with the creativity and experience of its practitioners.
Another thing to note is that we, at Bushido Parkour Ninja Fitness, follow the founder of parkour, David Belle, very closely. We have a deep respect for him and his voice in the parkour community. All that we do as traceurs and instructors of parkour is heavily influenced by him.
We had a blast at the July Jamboree on the 8th. With the help of our uncle and aunt, Tim and Rebecca Daniels, we were able to build an obstacle course with 6 different obstacles. We had 114 people run the course. Some even ran it twice, they loved it so much! Each participant had the option to compete against others in their age bracket for prizes. It was awesome to see the skills and determination of those who competed, as well as those who were just running the course for the fun of it. We had a such a fun time!
Much to our surprise, most people had never heard of Bushido Parkour Ninja Fitness. We were super jazzed to share our world with everyone who came to see us. It left us feeling the future is bright for Bushido Parkour Ninja Fitness.
Since then we have had a big jump in interest. It seems people are finally finding us! We are excited to keep adding new features to the gym, while still doing what we love – sharing parkour and American Ninja Warrior with our Cedar City Community.
We had a blast with We Jump the World! It was a lot of fun bringing the parkour community together here in Cedar City and in St. George, UT. We could feel the energy and excitement knowing this was a GLOBAL EVENT! Thanks to all those who showed their support on David Belle’s birthday, the founder of parkour.
